Day 3

 

Route for the day: Georgetown – Rupununi Savannah?. Familiarisation with vehicles and start of journey to the South. The road passes through a rich tapestry of landscapes, from urban to rural, then on to the rainforest, and finally the Rupununi Savannah, which resembles nothing so much as Africa. Overnight camping in the savannah.

Day 4

 

Route for the day: Rupununi Savannah – Karanambu Ranch?. Travel through the Rupununi Savannah to Karanambu Lodge on roads that are only open to 4×4 vehicles. The owner of the lodge has dedicated her life to the conservation of the Rupununi giant otter. Animals of all kinds that are in need of help are nursed back to health at the ranch. Overnight stay at the ranch.

Day 5

 

Route for the day: Karanambu Ranch – Boa Vista?. After a hearty breakfast, onward journey to the border town of Lethem. Border crossing over the Takatu River, entry into Brazil. Onward journey through the Waimiri Atroari indigenous Indian peoples' reserve to Boa Vista. Evening meal together and hotel accommodation.

Day 6

 

Route for the day: Boa Vista – Presidente Fiueiredo. Long driving day beside the Branco River through the northern stretches of the Amazon region to Presidente Fiueiredo, which is also known as the "land of waterfalls". Crossing the Equator and overnight camp close to a waterfall.
