Route for the day: Cohaique – Roballos Pass. Drive on the Carretera Austral, past the "cold rainforest", with views of the 2,675 metre high Cerro Castillo massif. Journey onward beside the largest lake in Chile, Lago General Carrera. Overnight camping.

Itinerary for the day Paso Roballos – Pampa del Asador?. Driive through the Roballos Pass. Border crossing from Chile into Argentina. Viewing of the cave paintings at Cuevas de las Manos, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drive over the pampas and camping accommodation in the wilds of Patagonia.

Itinerary for the day Pampa del Asador – El Chaltén?. Drive on the familiar Routa 40 through the Argentinian steppe to the majestic Ftz Roy Massif. Hostel accommodation at the foot of the mountains.
